Pythagorean table for 2010-11 Spanish Primera Division (2011-01-17)

Below is the Pythagorean table for the 2010-11 Spanish Primera División after 19 matches — exactly at the halfway point.  As always, I use a league Pythagorean exponent of 1.70 in my calculations.  Barcelona and Real Madrid have made the league an emphatic two-horse race, and that is reflected in the Pythagorean expectations.  Espanyol was the big overachiever in the first quarter of the season, and have overcome an inferior goal record to lie in fifth place.  Deportivo and Racing have performed better than their goal performances would indicate, but they have to be looking over their shoulder.  Finally, the teams in the greatest danger of relegation have been the biggest underachievers and have deserved their fate, up to now.

By the way, there is an error in the goal table on the Wikipedia page for this season's Liga.  The Athletic Bilbao-Málaga has been given an erroneous 1-1 scoreline, but that match won't be played until 15 May.
