Introducing Prospect Reports

We said at the beginning of May that this month would be quite consequential. We are pleased to introduce player prospect reports for sale on the Soccermetrics site.

These reports find their origin in prospect lists that Aaron Nielsen developed as part of his end-of-season reviews for over 60 domestic league competitions in 2012.  These lists identified top players for consideration in the close-season transfer markets, taking into account their statistical records, their availability on the transfer market, and their projected market value.  Over €670m was spent on these prospects in the summer and winter transfer windows, including players such as Kevin Mirallas (€6.7m from Olympiacos to Everton), Jackson Martínez (€7.7m from Chiapas to Porto), and Artjoms Rudnevs (€3.1m from Lech Poznan to Hamburg).  In several cases, buying clubs were first made aware of these players through Aaron’s lists.

We are very pleased to bring these prospect lists under the Soccermetrics umbrella, and we’ve expanded the list to include the top 25 prospects in each league with a combination of quantitative and qualitative data.

We’re also pleased to introduce the Soccermetrics Shop, where we will sell these prospect reports as well as other Soccermetrics-related online content (of which some items will be free).  We’ll be adding a lot more reports as the European season comes to a close, and more later on in the year when the calendar-year leagues conclude in USA, Japan, and Scandinavia.

Football is an international sport, or rather, a global network of domestic league competitions. It is our expectation that these prospects will make football club staffs more aware of quality talent from around the world and initiate the due diligence process.
