Sweet Home Buenos Aires…

On Friday, I’ll be in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for ten days.  I’m going for personal reasons — a close friend is getting married — but football will definitely be on the agenda.  Unfortunately, thanks to AFA’s unpredictable scheduling practices, matches involving me and my friend’s respective clubs –Vélez Sarsfield and Argentinos Juniors — that were once on consecutive days are now on the same day and two hours apart.  And there’s a bachelor party that evening, too.  Es para reír para no llorar…

After 13 years away from Argentina, there is so much to see and do, but I do hope to check out the startup scene in Buenos Aires and perhaps connect with those who are doing football analytics there.  Or maybe check out the English-speaking colony within Buenos Aires.  Who knows.  I had designs on hosting a meetup, but I didn’t get much of a response that indicated any interest, so I guess I’ll have to do it the traditional Argentine way and play it by ear.  I’ll have my own plans but if anyone’s interested in meeting up and there’s critical mass, maybe we could arrange to meet at a café or a boliche in the north or central part of the city.

Luego de 13 años, vuelvo a la República Argentina el viernes por motivo de asistir la boda de un amigo cercano.  Permanezco en la Argentina hasta el 27 del septiembre (incluso una visita cortita a Asunción del Paraguay).  La Argentina ya es otro país, y hay mucho para saber, para conocer y reconocer, para recordar.  Pero sí espero conocer la comunidad de emprendimiento de tecnología en Buenos Aires, y además la comunidad de análisis estadística en el fútbol (que chiquita sea).  No tengo nada arreglado, pero si hay interés en reunir en algún café en la zona norte o central de BA, mandame email y veremos.
